Physiotherapy is a therapy that works towards the rectification of mobility issues that arise post or during illnesses or injuries that limit a person’s abilities to move and perform day-to-day functional activities. Physiotherapists make a diagnosis and create a treatment plan for a patient based on their medical history, physical examination, and, if necessary, the results of laboratory and imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, or MRI findings.  Electrodiagnostic testing (e.g., electromyograms and nerve conduction velocity testing) may also be used.

The commonly used therapies include the prescription of or assistance with specific exercises, manual therapy, and manipulation, mechanical devices such as traction, education, electrophysical modalities that include heat, cold, electricity, sound waves, radiation, assistive devices, prostheses, orthoses, and other interventions. In addition, Physiotherapy work with individuals on preventing the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles, thus maintaining and restoring maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan.
